With the objective of advancing the Cashless Bangladesh initiative and expanding digital transactions through Bangla QR, Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB), as the lead bank, successfully organized a two-day seminar, campaign, and roadshow titled “Cashless Bangladesh” in Bogura.
The program brought together officials from Bangladesh Bank, acquiring and issuing banks, Visa representatives, merchants, and students from various schools, colleges, and universities.
Speakers highlighted the Honorable Governor of Bangladesh Bank’s observation that the nation spends over BDT 20,000 crore annually on cash handling — a cost that can be significantly reduced through the adoption of digital payment systems. They also emphasized the vision of transforming Bangladesh into a zero-cash economy within the next decade.
As part of this initiative, MTB and Visa introduced the country’s first Multipurpose Student Card, reinforcing their joint commitment to fostering a smart, cashless, and inclusive Bangladesh through the active inclusion of students.
The sessions were presided over by Rafeza Akhter Kanta, Director, Payment Systems Department, and inaugurated by Arief Hossain Khan, Executive Director, Bangladesh Bank. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO of Mutual Trust Bank PLC, attended as Special Guest, along with Sardar Al Emran, Executive Director (Current Charge), Bangladesh Bank, Bogura. Professor Dr. Hosne Ara Begum, Chairman, TMSS, graced the event as Guest of Honour.
