Mutual Trust Bank PLC has joined Bangladesh Bank’s BDT 5,000 crore CMSME Sector Working Capital Refinance Fund, aimed at supporting operating CMSME enterprises facing working capital constraints and enabling them to operate at full capacity. The initiative is expected to support business continuity, employment generation and sustainable growth of the CMSME sector.

The signing ceremony was held on September 08, 2026 at Bangladesh Bank, where Md. Zabdul Islam, Director, SMESPD, Bangladesh Bank, and Chowdhury Akhtar Asif, Additional Managing Director & CBO, Mutual Trust Bank PLC, exchanged the agreement documents on behalf of their respective organizations. The event was graced by Md. Anis Ur Rahman, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, as the Chief Guest. Sanjib Kumar Dey, Head of SME & Agri Banking Division, Mutual Trust Bank PLC, along with other officials from Bangladesh Bank, also attended the signing ceremony.

The fund, established by Bangladesh Bank from the surplus liquidity of scheduled banks, is a revolving fund with a tenure of three years. Under the scheme, participating banks will receive refinance facilities from Bangladesh Bank at an interest/profit rate of 4%, while the customer-level interest/profit rate will be capped at 9%. A grace period of 3 or 6 months may also be allowed, subject to applicable conditions.

The fund primarily targets operating CMSME enterprises that are unable to operate at full capacity due to inadequate working capital. CIB-classified borrowers are not eligible under the scheme.

Through its participation, MTB aims to expand access to affordable working capital financing for CMSMEs, support business expansion and employment generation, and contribute to the sustainable development of the CMSME sector in Bangladesh.
