MTB Hosts Workshop on “Renewable Energy in Bangladesh: Policy Framework, Technological Innovation & Financing Opportunities”

On May 25, 2025, MTB launched its Environment Day celebrations with an internal workshop titled “Renewable Energy in Bangladesh: Policy Framework, Technological Innovation & Financing Opportunities.” The event was inaugurated by Mr. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO of MTB, who emphasized the vital role of financial institutions in combating climate change and advancing the green transition in Bangladesh.

“Climate change is now affecting the entire world. Every step we take must be directed toward saving the environment,” said Mr. Rahman. “At MTB, we recognize our responsibility to contribute meaningfully to Bangladesh’s clean energy transition through awareness, innovation, and strategic financing.”

MTB and Footsteps Inspire Young Environmental Stewards through “Adopt a Plant”

Bringing the spirit of World Environment Day to life, MTB joined hands with Footsteps Bangladesh to launch the “Adopt a Plant” program — a joyful, hands-on initiative aimed at nurturing environmental awareness among young students.

Held on June 2, 2025, at Kazifori Government Primary School and 21 No. Pallabi Government Primary School in Dhaka, the event saw over 1,000 children receive indoor plants to care for as their own. The schoolyards buzzed with excitement as children learned how to look after their leafy companions, each making a small but meaningful pledge to protect the planet, the initiative aimed to spark a love for nature and a sense of responsibility among children.

Each child was given an easy-to-care-for indoor plant to take home, with simple guidance on how to nurture it. More than 1,000 students took part, filling the school grounds with excitement, curiosity, and a shared pledge to care for their leafy new friends. To leave a lasting mark, large plants were also placed on each school campus.
The event was more than just a giveaway — it was a joyful, hands-on learning experience designed to connect children with nature in a personal way. By making them caretakers of living things, the program encouraged empathy, mindfulness, and climate awareness from an early age.

Through this heartfelt initiative, MTB and Footsteps highlighted the idea that creating environmental change doesn’t always require grand gestures — sometimes, it starts with a small plant and a young promise to help it grow.

Old Stuff, New Life – Adopt a Tree”: Turning Thoughtful Giving into Greener Tomorrows

What if giving away something old could help grow something new? That’s the idea behind MTB’s cheerful and creative initiative, “Old Stuff, New Life – Adopt a Tree,” held on June 2-3, 2025. Employees across the bank came together to donate gently used clothes, books, toys, and electronic items — not just to reduce waste, but to spark new beginnings.

For every donation received, MTB pledged to plant a mangrove tree in a designated coastal area of Bangladesh – each one dedicated in the name of the donor. The response was heartfelt and enthusiastic, transforming simple acts of generosity into living, breathing contributions to the planet.

MTB collaborated with Lal Sabuj Society (LSS), a youth-led non-profit organization, to help distribute the donated items to communities in need – turning donations into meaningful change on the ground. The upcoming tree plantation, to be carried out in collaboration with the Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS), will further strengthen coastal ecosystems and promote long-term environmental resilience.

This joyful exchange of “old for new” reminded everyone that climate action can start right where we are — with what we already have — and that even small gestures, when rooted in care, can grow into lasting impact.

These collective efforts highlight MTB’s dedication to sustainability as a core value, extending from green financing and corporate operations to grassroots environmental education and climate action.
