MTB Pays Tribute to its Founding Chairman Late Syed Manzur Elahi

Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB) organized a memorial event “Remembering Syed Manzur Elahi” on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the Samson H. Chowdhury Auditorium, MTB Tower, in remembrance of its Founding Chairman and Chairman at the time of his passing, Late Syed Manzur Elahi.

Syed Manzur Elahi (February 26, 1942 – March 12, 2025) was a visionary entrepreneur, respected industrialist, and statesman. He established Apex Tannery in 1976 and went on to found Apex Footwear Ltd. and Grey Advertising (Bangladesh) Ltd. He served twice as an Adviser to the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh. He played a pivotal role in founding MTB in 1999. He also made significant contribution to education and social development through East West University and Manusher Jonno Foundation. His lifelong dedication to ethics, excellence, and public service earned him multiple prestigious awards, including the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from UKBCCI in 2023.

The program was graced by his family members, the Bank’s Board of Directors, Senior Management Team, employees, and well-wishers. The program began with a welcome note and opening remarks by MTB Managing Director & CEO, Syed Mahbubur Rahman. This was followed by a memorial AV titled “Legacy of Leadership”, showcasing Syed Manzur Elahi’s impactful journey and enduring influence.
Later in the program, Board Members, Senior Management, Family, and Close Friends shared their memories and paid heartfelt tributes. Notable individuals who spoke at the event included Former MTB Managing Director & CEO, Anis A. Khan; Director of MTB, Md. Abdul Malek; Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank and Vice Chancellor of East West University (EWU), Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin; Former Independent Director of MTB, M. Mokammel Haque; Bangladesh Former President of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Bangladesh and a veteran business leader, Mahbubur Rahman and Son of Syed Manzur Elahi, Chairman of Landmark Footwear Ltd., Founding Director of Blue Ocean Footwear Ltd. and Managing Director of Apex Footwear Limited, Syed Nasim Manzur.

MTB Chairman Rashed Ahmed Chowdhury delivered the closing remarks, reflecting on Syed Manzur Elahi’s legacy of vision, integrity, patriotism, and service. He fondly recalled their long-standing partnership in establishing MTB and reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to upholding his values.

The event concluded with a prayer for the salvation of the departed soul of Late Syed Manzur Elahi.
